I guess there might be a social aspect to it, but it's absurd to stand on line to purchase a commodity piece of hardware.



I suspect it's largely a carry-over from the excitement of camping out for movies or game releases of yesteryear, which was 10% impatience and 90% friends & palatable excitement.


Unless you're going to resell it for a profit, which is quite common in China.


I'd say there's probably a bit of patriotism at work here.
