Maybe if Amazon simply posted a score/rating of how many people bought vs. returned the particular product and frequency over time, that information would alone be helpful. However, not sure they would ever share such competitively valuable information directly. They do sort of share it indirectly through the best sellers lists on the Amazon site, however, they do not share details of "how" they arrive at what "best-selling" means.
